Small atlas of a natural city
Small atlas of a natural city
For the past ten years, the question of "nature in the city" has gained ground among planners, ecologists, cultural actors, etc. This atlas brings together converging approaches from these different worlds to propose new ways of seeing and creating the city.
Through the richness and complexity of its relationship with nature, Marseille constitutes a privileged laboratory for studying this new situation in the relations between the urban and natural worlds. Beyond its often celebrated natural spaces – coastline, hills, coves – Marseille conceals, within the urban fabric itself, a quantity of public and private natural spaces, but also wastelands, interstices, which allow numerous plants and animals to live among us.
With maps, drawings, photos, and five family walks to discover Marseille off the beaten track; and to outline another way of looking at, living in, and planning our cities. This book was produced by a team of ecologists, sociologists, and urban planners as part of a national research project.
