Mousse - Klaus Modick
Mousse - Klaus Modick
An aging, internationally renowned botanist retreats to his family home in the German countryside to write a final work aimed at critiquing the methods of modern botany. As he progresses, he realizes that his scientific work cataloging and classifying the world's flora has actually kept him alienated from nature, its vitality, and its fundamental essence.
And as his physical strength declines, his face gradually invaded by a mysterious green moss, he recalls his father's compulsive need to prune the vegetation and push back the natural encroachment of the forest on the boundaries of their property. He also recalls, between writing and walks, how he and his family fled the nascent fascism, and his first romantic feelings.
Klaus Modick immerses us in the thoughts of a man reexamining his life and gaining a new, deeper understanding of love, death, and the natural world. He also offers a philosophical reflection on language and how it can keep us away from the living heart of what it signifies. Finally, Mousse explores our most fundamental needs for transcendence and connection to the world, and delivers a moving testament to our intimate relationship with nature.
