Anouk left her comfortable Montreal apartment for a dilapidated forest refuge in Kamouraska. Holed up far from everything in the harshest of winters, she delivers her story in the form of a logbook, with bonus lists and drawings. Seeking to tame her frugal lifestyle and banish her fear, she puts down on paper the metamorphosis taking place within her: the fear of the dark and coyotes gives way to wonder; the disgust with the system, to hope; the difficulties of daily life, to the perfection of snow removal techniques, of heating the stove, of cohabitation with the beasts that reign in the boreal forest?
"Encabanée" is a journey deep into the woods and into oneself. A quest for meaning far from civilization. A return to one's roots. The necessary pilgrimage to revisit one's Quebecois roots, with the rigor of the colony's first camps and a library of poets to keep one's bearings.
But should we go so far as to inhabit the territory to better defend it?
