City Gardeners: Portraits Captured on the Spot
City Gardeners: Portraits Captured on the Spot
Funny and touching portraits of urban gardeners, which inspire the desire to garden and meet others in the garden. Raphaèle Bernard-Bacot is a "foraging" artist: for two years, she traveled Paris and its region to meet urban gardeners. From the former workers' vegetable gardens of Garches or Saint-Cloud, to the urban farms of Versailles or Saint-Denis, by way of the community gardens that grow at the foot of Parisian buildings... she sketched from life the flowers, the fruits, the vegetables, but especially those who cultivate them. Result: around fifty impressionist sketch boards, teeming with details and vegetable garden anecdotes, embellished with short and poetic texts that weave with humor and tenderness the portraits of these city growers. Because each garden has its own character and reveals itself to be above all the reflection of its gardener.
